Can anyone give me a little information on the road from Oakley to Grouse Creek?
I would like to know if the road is well marked?
How far from Oakley to Grouse Creek?
Does the road get washed out when it rains?
How about cell phone use in that area?
I live in Eugene OR. and plan on making a trip to Grouse Creek in the coming weeks.
Thank you for any information on this road. Dale Pierce.

The road to Grouse Creek from Oakley is generally pretty good. The road is not well marked, and there are several place you can get turned around. Use a GPS and you will be fine, if you don't have one, then at least print out a Google Map or Google Earth map of the road.
The distance is about 40 miles or so, as I recall. The road occasionally gets washed out with a really big thunder storm, but it is generally taken care of pretty fast, so that shouldn't be much of a problem for you.
No cell phone coverage in the area. Once you leave Oakley you will lose reception about 5 miles out of town, and you will not get it back until you are about 10-15 miles South of Grouse Creek.
So, are you coming to hunt or what is your reason for coming to Grouse Creek, just curious. Oh, make sure you have good tires and a spare, a jack, and a lug nut wrench, bring food and drinks with you too, and make sure you have enough gas to get back, as there is generally none available in G.C. The road is fairly well traveled this time of year, (5-6 vehicles a day), unless it snows.

Thank you very much for information on the road from Oakley to Grouse Creek.
The reason I'm going to make the trip to Grouse Creek is to just see where my ancestors lived and worked. Lorenzo Richins is my Great Grand Father. Phillip Paskett married my Great Great Grand Father's daughter, Emma Richins. My mother was born to John Henry Richins in Grouse Creek. Son of Lorenzo. Clarence Richin, Son of Lorenzo, married Ann Eliza Toyn. Albert F. Richins and Phillip Paskett were the first of the Richins clan to move from Henefer Ut. to Grouse Creek. As you can see I have a few ties there and would like very much to just look around and see what I can find. I also know that one of the Richins built a house there, I would also like to see if I can find that also.
If you can think of any thing else that I should know about the area, please let me know.
Thank you again for getting back to me. Maybe one of these day I'll be able to meet you. Dale Pierce.

Dale,
If you happen to be coming next week, I will be in Grouse Creek from the 17th through the 25th. I can show you most of the places where people lived in your list above, and probably introduce you to many of your cousins. Parley Paskett, and my dad were very good frinds when they both grew up together in Grouse Creek. The old Richins home is three homes North of the cemetery on the West side of the road, when you get there. Next week would be a really good week for you to visit, it is the annual Deer hunt, and lots of your relatives will be in town then.
Whenever you decide to come, you should probably call JoAnn Kimber and see about renting the only motel room in town. Her number is 435-747-7371. There is no place to eat in town, so bring your own sandwiches or whatever. I hope to meet you too one day soon.

Hi again Mr. Kimber. I'm sorry to be late on this. I have been waiting on a reply from my family that lives in Buhl ID. that wants to come with me. I hope you get this before you leave.
My niece won't be able to make it this weekend, but will be able to go the 24th of this month. Is there any way I can get ahold of you in Grouse Creek? I know you are leaving this weekend. so I won't be able to e-mail you. But just in case there may be something come up I'd like to let you know.
Thank you so much for all your help. Dale Pierce

Hi Dale,

If you stop into the store, they should be able to give you directions to Chuck's home. If the store is closed, you can stop by almost any house and they will know also. If you have access to a phone, you can call my folks at 435-747-7601 and they can help you also.

Alan

Hi Dale,

It was a pleasure to meet you. I'm sorry we didn't get more time to visit and show you stuff. But, I hope you made the rounds of places I told you about, and I hope you got to visit with the Richins guys while they were in town, and with Lyman Kimber.
I hear Lynette Anderson gave you a personal tour of the rock home, which is great. The cemetery was full of your family, which I am sure you found out too. I hope you made some connections there. I hope you and your family had an enjoyable time, and will return again one day soon.

Best Wishes,
Chuck
