MOOSE in Grouse Creek?

Postby kimcha on Wed Nov 07, 2007 8:43 pm

So, I hear that a Moose has been spotted in Grouse Creek. Some say he was in Etna for a while, but he has now moved to Pine Creek. Has anyone seen him? Anyone taken a picture?
Do you suppose this, is a one time occurance, or have Moose been here before? I wonder if they were native to Grouse Creek at one time? It seems a bit of an unusual place for a moose don't you think? But then . . . . . maybe not.
I remember as a kid that Uncle Ray Kimber had an old moose horn laying around. He said he found it up in the hills somewhere. I also remermber Uncle Winfred telling me a story about coming across a bear up in the hills one day many years ago. I've never found any but, I guess anything is possible.
So just to wet your appetite, and curiosity, I have attached a couple of pictures of Moose horns which my kids and I have found, . . . . yep, found in Grouse Creek. We've had them for many years, and don't even remember where in Grouse Creek we found them. They are from two different animals, so if the current rumors of a Moose in Grouse Creek are true, there have been at least 3 moose in Grouse Creek over the years.
So who's seen this latest moose?

Nice Racks!

Okay, here is the story as I know it.

Garet, Clint, and Reese Wirick with Braxton McCintyre spotted what they thought was a huge buck. After a bit they realized it was a moose. As far as I can tell it was just north and east of the Red Top Cabin field wither in the Cabins field or in Drowser Town.

The deer hunters who stay at my cabin mentioned they have seen one over by Etna before and when I talked to the biologist, he said there have been 2 over on the Park Valley side.

So there are at least 2 in the area, and maybe as many as 4.
